Gandhinagar: 19th- 21st Feb, 2016
Thrilled and excited to be a part of the fourth edition of Vibrant Gujarat International Travel Mart (VGITM) 2016 feature in association with Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar.
I loved the flamboyance with which the event kickstarted with the power packed inauguration of the event by Gujarat Chief Minister Smt. Anandiben Patel in shades of popping pink, sunny orange, bright purples, navy blues, dark maroons, black, beige and gold embodying history, folklore, traditional handicrafts and a rebellion of splashing modernism in peace and pieces.
VGITM is a global travel exposition organised by Government of Gujarat and Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Ltd. (TCGL) in association with Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) to promote Gujarat as the world-class tourist destination.
The highlight and the forerunner of the 3 day event was the release of a coffee-table book ‘Gujarat Tourism through the Land of Art and Craft’ and ‘Tourism Roadmap – 2025’ by CM Smt Patel and other senior dignitaries on the occasion. The British Deputy High Commissioner, Ahmedabad, Geoff Wain also pitched for the inclusion of sustainable development in the tourism sector.
As I walked into the venue- the magnificent Mahatma Mandir Convention cum Exhibition Centre, little by little, I was taking the opportunity to chat and have a quick look at the celebration of international travel manifestation of a melange of retail buyers, investors, travel operators, hoteliers, airlines, destination management organisations, exhibitors and other industry stalwarts from around 50 countries including USA, England, Canada, Australia, Italy and Japan and 20 Indian states thereby opening significant business opportunities between travel fraternity of Gujarat- ‘the power capital of India’ and international travel trade.
The entry of the venue was set up like a heritage gate of a royal bliss that marked a strong welcome to ‘Vibrant and Gatisheel Gujarat’. Complementing the stage set up, there was a large foyer exhibiting the soulful raga and colorful performances of folklore with an attempt to promote Gujarat as the world-class tourist destination combining the incredible beauty of Gujarat Tourism and traditional offerings with top-notch local craftsmanship in international markets.
The huge success of the event with a grand footfall was a clear reflection of the charm and royalty of state’s tourism sector due to series of traditional offerings during events like Navratri, Kite Festival, Rann Utsav and Heritage Walk- all of them portraying the culturally rich zone of the state embodying history, folklore, traditional handicrafts and a rebellion of splashing modernism in peace and pieces.
Hey..Wait up! A big shoutout to the efficiently focussed FICCI team who took complete charge of the event with fierce intelligence, managed with full authority and responsibility. Not a single person I talked to failed to highlight this facet.
Love you Gujarat…More power to you! Much love FICCI for the pleasant experience I had in Gujarat. There is much more to this place than I have ever imagined and I promise to be here again soon, very soon.
